The Challenge

Ulster Rugby required a solution that would reduce energy costs while aligning with their commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

However, installing a solar system within a live stadium environment presented several challenges:

  • Working at height on a large-scale structure

  • Coordinating installation around ongoing stadium operations

  • Ensuring minimal disruption to staff, events, and facilities

  • Maintaining strict health and safety standards throughout

This required a carefully planned and highly coordinated approach.

The Solution

Solarfix designed and delivered a bespoke solar PV system tailored specifically to the needs of the stadium.

Following a detailed assessment of energy usage and site conditions, our in-house team developed a system that maximises efficiency while integrating seamlessly with the existing infrastructure.

Key aspects of the solution included:

  • Installation of nearly 230 high-performance solar panels

  • Strategic placement across the East Terrace roof

  • Full project management from design to commissioning

  • Strict adherence to health and safety protocols

  • Minimal disruption to day-to-day stadium operations

Throughout the project, clear communication and coordination ensured a smooth and efficient installation process.

The Results

The completed system now delivers significant environmental and financial benefits:

  • Generates over 115kWh of clean energy annually

  • Reduces carbon emissions by more than 20 tonnes per year

  • Provides long-term electricity cost savings

  • Supports Ulster Rugby’s sustainability strategy

These savings enable reinvestment into community programmes and the continued development of the club.
