With the help of Solarfix, the Metropolitan Arts Centre (MAC), one of Northern Ireland’s leading arts venues, is now shining brighter than ever, and not just on stage. The Belfast cultural hub has taken a major step towards sustainability by installing a solar system.

Located in the heart of the city’s Cathedral Quarter, the MAC has long been a centre for creativity, hosting exhibitions, performances, and events that inspire people from across the region. Now, thanks to Solarfix’s expert installation, the venue is reducing its carbon footprint and cutting long-term energy costs.

The new bespoke solar system allows the MAC to save thousands of pounds each year, while significantly lowering carbon emissions. Over the lifetime of the system, it is expected to prevent almost 300,000 kg of carbon from entering the atmosphere, the equivalent of taking dozens of cars off the road.

Lisa McGinley, CEO at the MAC said,

“At the MAC, sustainability is not a side project but part of who we are. Installing solar panels with Solarfix is another practical step in reducing our carbon footprint and embedding environmental responsibility across everything we do, from the energy that powers our building to the art that fills it. We believe cultural spaces should lead by example, showing how creativity and climate action can go hand in hand.”

Speaking about the project, Solarfix Managing Director Michael O’Donnell commented,

“We’re proud to have supported the MAC in bringing their sustainability vision to life. This project shows that even in a busy city setting, organisations can take meaningful steps to cut energy costs, reduce carbon emissions, and lead by example.”

As a trusted provider of renewable energy solutions across Northern Ireland, Solarfix continues to help businesses, community organisations, and homeowners make the switch to cleaner, more efficient power.
