Introduction
Solarfix is honoured to work with Royal Portrush Golf Club, providing a tailored solar installation for their Greenkeepers’ Shed - the operational heart of the course. As a world-renowned championship venue, Royal Portrush maintains meticulous grounds, equipment, and maintenance facilities. The Greenkeepers’ Shed, with substantial and continuous energy demands, was an ideal candidate for a large-scale system with solar power storage batteries. The project reflects Royal Portrush’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and long-term operational efficiency, aligning closely with Solarfix’s values of integrity, quality, and technical excellence.
Installed Solar System
System Size | Inverter | Battery | Estimated Payback |
74 kW Solar Array | Solis Hybrid Inverter | 24 BYD | 6.3 years |

Financial Benefits
The Greenkeepers’ Shed experiences some of the highest energy demands on-site, due to machinery, irrigation systems, and operational equipment. The 74 kW hybrid system, supported by 24 BYD storage batteries, produces over 40,000 kWh of electricity per year.
This reduces reliance on grid electricity, lowers operational costs, and allows energy to be stored for night-time and off-peak use. The inclusion of battery storage ensures that the facility benefits from the maximum value of every kWh produced. Rising energy prices in Northern Ireland make this a highly effective investment, with the payback period estimated at 6.3 years.
Why Royal Portrush Chose Solarfix
From initial consultation to commissioning, Solarfix designed a truly bespoke package -fully aligned with the club’s energy profile and long-term sustainability goals. Large systems of this scale require G99 approval, and Solarfix managed the entire process on Royal Portrush’s behalf. Since the Greenkeepers Shed installation in 2023, Solarfix have since installed 3 further systems on the Royal Portrush site. When discussing the relationship between Solarfix and Royal Portrush Golf Club they stated:
“Over the past two years, their team has installed four solar systems across our Clubhouse, Ladies Clubhouse, Greenkeepers Shed, and Starter Hut… delivered with exceptional professionalism, technical expertise, and meticulous attention to detail.”
This demonstrates the trust Royal Portrush places in Solarfix to deliver high-quality systems that are tailored to each facility’s requirements.
Environmental Impact
The Greenkeepers’ Shed installation provides over 17,000 kg of CO₂ savings per year, making it the most environmentally impactful of all four systems. Over the panel warranty period, this represents a substantial contribution to the club’s broader carbon reduction targets. By incorporating storage batteries and optimised inverters, the shed can reduce reliance on grid power, ensuring energy efficiency and sustainability in one of the most energy-intensive parts of the site.
Conclusion
The Greenkeepers’ Shed solar installation demonstrates how a large-scale system can deliver significant financial, operational, and environmental benefits.
Royal Portrush Golf Club benefits from reduced energy costs, increased energy resilience, and substantial carbon reductions. This showcases how solar power Northern Ireland solutions can transform high-demand operational golf clubs.
Reflecting on the project, a representative from Royal Portrush Golf Club commented:
We are absolutely delighted with the outcome and would not hesitate to recommend Solarfix to any organisation seeking excellence in solar energy.”
