Introduction to SolarEdge Energy Bank
SolarEdge grid independence starts with the SolarEdge Energy Bank. The SolarEdge Energy Bank is a 10kw home storage battery that can be used at a single-phase property i.e. a home or small business, to store excess solar power that has been generated by a solar PV array – making it an important part of your installation.
What is Solar Energy Storage?
Home storage batteries can be used to store excess solar power to use at a later time i.e. in the evenings when the sun has set, when you would normally pull from the grid, meaning you are less grid reliant. The SolarEdge battery storage is up to 94.5% round trip efficiency if DC coupled and has a 10 year warranty period so you have peace of mind.
The Importance of Solar Power Optimisation
SolarEdge solar power optimisation is ground-breaking technology, allowing each panel to operate independently. Meaning that if one of your panels is shaded, it does not affect the production of the panels that aren’t shaded, as a string system would. It also benefits people who will need to spread their solar array over multiple roofs, using the same theory.
Benefits of Solar Panel Monitoring
SolarEdge solar panel monitoring means you can see exactly what each panel is generating, giving end users more clarity on their solar system. Users are able to understand more than ever, how their system is working and producing. Moreover, should their be an issue with a panel, you are able to see which exact one is effected, and as they work individually, the rest of the system will not be effected.
How an Energy Management System Works
The SolarEdge Energy Management System (EMS) can be viewed via a desktop or an app, meaning that you always have your PV Solar System at the tip of your fingers. The EMS can detail the system production, house consumption and battery percentage meaning that you are able to manage your PV to maximise savings. For example, if you can see your system is generating 3.68kw, but the house is only using 0.68kw and you are exporting 3kw to the grid, you know to pop a load (dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer etc) on, to maximise the use of the PV.
Exploring Battery Storage Solutions
There is 2 main reasons why someone would need home storage batteries.
1) If the property is vacant during the day, whilst the solar is generating power, you will need to store it for when you get home. Otherwise, you would be sending all the power (bar base loads, such as your fridge and internet router) back to the grid for around 14p (2023/24 rate) and then buying the power back once the sun has gone down at around 30p.
2) If you are exporting a lot of power back to the grid and are still buying a lot of power in. Store the excess and use it later instead of buying it from the grid, a very simple principle. The best way to decipher how much battery storage you need is to determine how much you exported to the grid within the last 12 months, divide that by 365 and that is your daily average.
** Reminder, we live in Northern Ireland. The weather is not on our side so you will export a lot more during the summer months.
Achieving Grid Independence with SolarEdge
SolarEdge grid independence starts with adding a battery - you are becoming more self-sufficient by storing your excess solar for later instead of relying on the grid. Obviously, this will look different at different times of the year i.e in summer you will be able to be more off grid as days are longer and weather is brighter allowing you to generate more solar. However, in winter this will be harder to achieve due to shorter day light hours and the weather being duller.
SolarEdge battery storage combats this issue with their ‘manual control’ battery settings, allowing you to charge your battery on a cheaper night tariff for use throughout the darker mornings/ evenings.
The Future of Smart Energy Solutions
Solar is an everchanging and improving industry as many people are striving for a greener, more sustainable world. SolarEdge are known world-wide for renewable energy integration technology and continue to think outside of the box with new and exciting ways to maximise solar production.
FAQ’S
1.How does SolarEdge energy bank work?
The SolarEdge Home Storage Battery features DC-coupled technology, which eliminates the triple conversion penalty, resulting in up to 10 days of free power annually. It boasts an industry-leading 94.5% round trip efficiency and allows for stacking up to three batteries on one inverter without requiring main panel upgrades. Additionally, it supports DC oversizing up to 200%.
2. What are the benefits of solar power optimisation?
· Generate more power from each module and overcome shading
· Avoid module-level power clipping to produce more power
· Monitor the power from every panel in the mySolarEdge app
3. How does SolarEdge monitor solar panels?
You can monitor your solar panels via the mySolarEdge app. The optimisers enable panel-level monitoring, providing greater control and flexibility. The optimisers also enhance energy production by reducing shading effects, preventing clipping, and minimizing mismatch losses.
4. What is an energy management system and how does it benefit solar energy?
The SolarEdge Energy Management System (EMS) is accessible via desktop or app, allowing you to monitor your PV solar system effortlessly. The EMS provides detailed information on system production, household consumption, and battery percentage, enabling you to optimize your PV usage for maximum savings.
5. What are the advantages of home battery storage for solar energy?
Home battery storage enables you to use more of the solar power you generate, rather than exporting it to the grid, resulting in a reduced reliance on the grid.
6. How does SolarEdge help achieve grid independence?
SolarEdge's home storage batteries enable homeowners to store surplus solar energy in batteries for use during times when the sun isn't shining. This reduces dependence on grid power during evenings or cloudy days.
